The season of Advent begins four Sundays before Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve. Advent is the beginning of the church year for Christians.

During Advent, we prepare for and anticipate the coming of Christ. Even as we look back and celebrate the birth of Jesus in a humble stable in Bethlehem, we also look forward, anticipating the second coming of Christ as the fulfillment of all that was promised by his first coming.

The lights, the music, the food, the wrapping paper—things just look, smell, and taste differently during the Advent and Christmas season. In Experiencing Christmas, author and pastor Matt Rawle shows us how these differences are a sign to us that God is about to do something radical and different at Christmas.

In An Unlikely Advent, author Rachel Billups guides readers through the Advent season by touching on the themes of hope, love, joy, and peace. She shares the stories of often-overlooked characters—Elizabeth and Zechariah, Herod, the magi, and the shepherds—each of whom has something unexpected to teach about living faithfully on the journey to Christmas.

In the Advent season, heaven seems so close as we remember the tiny baby in the manger—God in human form coming to show us the Way. Beloved pastor Will Willimon explores the idea of Jesus as both fully human and fully divine in the 4-week Advent study, Heaven and Earth.

Christmas comes and goes the same time each year. We have plenty of time to anticipate it, but before we know it, it’s gone as quickly as it came, leaving us wondering, What’s it all for? In his four-week Advent study, Waiting Here for You, best-selling author Louie Giglio reveals the story of Christmas as one of waiting, showing us how our waiting is never wasted when we are waiting on God.

For centuries, Christians have turned to the story and message of John the Baptist in the weeks leading up to Christmas, In Prepare the Way for the Lord, best-selling author and pastor Adam Hamilton explore the Advent themes of John’s life and ministry, and how John calls all followers of Jesus to prepare our hearts for his coming.

The Angels of Christmas is a four-week Advent study by Susan Robb that explores the four angelic visits surrounding the birth of Jesus with Zechariah, Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds. Readers will explore the visits and dive deep into the history of the angel Gabriel—and the other angels—in the Old Testament while discussing God’s presence in history and our lives today.

In his study, The Heart That Grew Three Sizes, pastor Matt Rawle explores faith themes found in the Christmas classic, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Rediscover and reinvigorate your Christian faith this Advent and Christmas season and take a look this familiar classic through the lens of faith.

A group of diverse Wesleyan scholars (Laceye Warner, Amy Valdex Barker, Jung Choi, and Sangwoo Kim) take you on an Advent journey guided by the practices in John Wesley’s means of grace in All the Good. In four sessions, readers will look at preparing the way for God, the discipline of prayer, the substance of good works, and the recognition of God’s presence in those called to serve.

It’s a story you know by heart, but the four week Advent study The Journey combines historical information and archeology with Adam Hamilton’s thoughtful, conversational teaching style to give you a new perspective on the story of Mary and Joseph’s journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem.

In Incarnation, best-selling author Adam Hamilton examines the names of Christ, giving historical and personal significance of his birth in this four-week study perfect for all age groups during the Advent and Christmas seasons.

One of the things we love most about Christmas is gathering with dear family members and close friends to celebrate Christ’s birth. That’s an important part of the season, but Dr. Ed Robb, author of Making Room, says if we look at the Advent story we’ll quickly learn that the focus of the coming of the newborn king is outward. This four-week study explores the warmth of welcome at Christmas following interactions with the Holy Family, the shepherds, and the magi.

In Light of the World, renowned scholar Amy-Jill Levine becomes your personal narrator and guide through the biblical texts that hold the story of the birth of Jesus.  Explore connections of the Gospel stories to the Old Testament, the role of women in the first-century, the revolutionary implications of Mary’s Magnificat, and much more. Perfect for small-group Advent study.

Almost Christmas discusses making a commitment to follow Christ wholeheartedly during Advent and connects the Wesleyan heritage with the traditional Advent themes of Love, Hope, Joy, and Peace. Additional components include a DVD, Leader Guide, as well as Nativity hymns by Charles Wesley, litanies for lighting the Advent wreath, and prayers.

Matt Rawle’s The Gift of the Nutcracker will help participants draw closer to Christ by exploring this holiday classic—now being adapted to a major motion picture by Disney this Christmas.

In Faithful, best-selling author Adam Hamilton takes you on an Advent journey through the eyes of Joseph. Spend time in reflection and contemplation as the divine break in and changes a carpenter’s world forever.

Discover with your small group the wonder and joy Christmas is meant to bring to our hearts with Because of Bethlehem, from Max Lucado.

Matt Rawle flips the script on the time-tested holiday tale and gleans timeless Advent truths. From the ghosts of Christmas past, to the Life of the present, and the resurrection of Christmas future, The Redemption of Scrooge finds the gospel story of redemption in Dickens’ Christmas classic. This four-week study is perfect for Advent.

This year, experience Advent and Christmas with the one who knew Jesus more intimately than anyone else—his mother, Mary. In Not a Silent NightAdam Hamilton helps you witness the life of Jesus from Mary’s unique perspective, starting at the very end and traveling back in time to the very beginning—the night of Christ’s birth.
